Clean Up Your Act || Making the transition to cleaner personal care products and Soapwalla Chef Rachel’s favorites
January 07, 2016There are many reasons to refresh your approach to the personal care products you use everyday: animal rights, supporting local business, organic farming, and or course your health and safety. Many articles have been written on the subject, this recent op-ed written by Nicolas Kristof is a great place to start and get motivated.
It can be overwhelming and expensive to overhaul your personal care products. A fun way to ease into using cleaner products is to make the switch while on vacation. If you are traveling to a different climate, it is a great time to try products that are used in varying seasons. By focusing on multi-tasking products, you'll have a lighter load to carry with you on your travel adventures. While we don’t recommend abandoning your skincare regime entirely, vacation is an superb time to embrace simplicity and unplugging – and that includes your 18 step skincare process as well.
All of Soapwalla’s products are unisex and multi-functional, simplifying skin-care for everyone. Many of the products below can be found in our Tasting Menu, which is packed with travel sizing of our six most popular products.
Deodorant Cream || Is a wildly effective deodorant that can be used on your feet or anywhere else you'd rather not sweat. Our deodorant cream also makes an excellent hair texturizer - simply run your fingers through your hair once you've finished applying it elsewhere.
Hand and Body Wash || Doubles as a shampoo and is biodegradable, making it suitable for camping.
Luxurious Body Oil || Our custom blended oil can be used as an all-over moisturizer. It also makes an effective hair conditioner.
Restorative Face Serum || This potent miracle-in-a-bottle rejuvenates and revitalizes, calming redness and naturally plumping skin. Our Restorative Face Serum is perfect for use as a daily moisturizer and as an overnight treatment.
Facial Toning Mist || Works in sync with the serum and can be used to prepare the skin before serum application and also after applying makeup as a setting spray. This multitasking toner soothes, refines skin texture, decongests pores, and keeps skin hydrated on long flights. Spritz throughout the day for a quick pick-me-up.
Lip Locked Lip Balm || Our silky smooth Lip Locked Lip Balms provide serious protection for dry and cracked lips with Fair Trade and USDA Certified Organic ingredients. They also work wonders as a cuticle treatment.
Here are a few more of Soapwalla Chef Rachel Winard's favorite natural product swaps:
Sun Potion’s Cacao Powder || While this powder is not exactly a beauty product, the oxidants in it certainly are. Rachel has been enjoying this as a part of her nightly homemade hot cocoa ritual. She mixes the powder with cinnamon, cardamom, maple syrup, and warmed almond or hazelnut milk, and cozies up with a good book.
Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint || Going clean with SPF is a great product category to dive right in with. This one by Coola in combination with our Restorative Face Serum is great for daily skin protection.
Ilia Lip Conditioner in Pink Moon || The average woman eats several pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. Healthier lip products, both clear balms and those with color, are easy swaps. Rachel has adored these lip conditioners by Ilia since they launched, so it's no surprise that she is majorly crushing on this collaboration with Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge. This limited edition berry shade was created to celebrate Earth Day and it can be layered for extra color payoff or dabbed on as a subtle stain.
